The barbie effect

The feedback on the first few email weeks of exploding products has been huge and we've gained some serious track and a few thousand new subscribers already - so thank you.

I noticed most eCommerce newsletters are as exciting as waiting for paint to dry, so I decided to fix it.

Here’s this week’s list of rapidly trending products, insights, and analysis - let's dive in.

Barbie Clothes

The "Barbie effect" is in full swing. Are you surprised?

Two weeks after the hit summer film's release, box office sales are on track to top $1 billion, and retail sales of the namesake dolls are booming.

"Across the board, we're seeing doll sales up 56%," said Harley Finkelstein, president of Shopify, the e-commerce platform that powers the direct-to-consumer operation for Barbie's parent company, Mattel.

Amazon hopped on the spike releasing a branded Barbie store for the movie.

Sales Data from the Previous 30 Days on Amazon.com:

  1. Margot Robbie Barbie Doll - $1,378,000 / month

  2. Barbie RC Convertible Car - $659,475.09 / month

  3. Barbie Ken Doll - $540,219.24 / month

What's next?

The momentum isn’t slowing down: Barbie held its spot as the No. 1 movie in North America for the third straight weekend.

Brands are seeing the power of a product-lead strategy to add a few million to their top line while increasing brand awareness. I foresee more movies doubling down on this idea or some savy sellers who want to be ahead of the curve?

Pheromones Perfumes for Women

Imagine adding science to your fragrance game. Pheromone-infused products just for the ladies are turning heads and raising brows. They're all about boosting attraction, and people are totally into it.

Hold on, because science is in the mix. Pheromones aren't just a buzzword; they can actually influence how we act.

However, interest in the product has continued to grow thanks to TikTok. In fact, videos like this featuring the brand have 566k views on the platform views within a week. This resulted in over 50,000 items being sold on Amazon in the past 10 days.

What's next?

The data looks promising that a new category inside of fragrances is being built right in front of our eyes. 2M views in the past 7 days isn't too shabby.

Perfume is invisible. Creating this hype, the sort of thing that you can't explain unless you have it, I think is a big aspect of why the perfumes have gone viral.
